CHEF & HOST - BEVAN VAHLAND

BEVAN VAHLAND
Bevan is both a professional head chef and a trained actor, director, writer, cartoonist and designer. He's been cooking in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia for the past 14 years in some of the cities largest establishments and has just published his first cooking book, also entitled 'FOOD TO EAT'. He is currently employed as the Chef Catering Manager at Epworth Cliveden in East Melbourne.
Artistically over the past 15 years, he has performed in many and various roles in theatre, TV and film productions throughout Victoria and New South Wales. Directing and writing is one of his key passions with projects including 'My life as a superhero', 'That Perfect Hat', 'The Surfing Santa', 'Cooking with the Bastard' and 'A soul for Breakfast' to name but a few.
Along with his partner Amber Vahland, they own and operate a boutique production and design company named 'Merlwynd Pictures' which produce TV, feature and short films, pilots and all design elements for the greater entertainment industries, specialising in costume design, stage design, puppetry, makeup and mask.
Bevan's artistic style is very cartoon based and a lot of his finished food plates often include those hard edge lines and bold colours that is always seen through his greater artistic design work. He is also passionate about the fragrance of food. His philosophy is that we eat the dish first with our nose, then our eyes and finally our mouth. Spices and frangrant herbs feature highly in his food and he loves to experiment with new concept flavours.

GUEST CHEF - JAMES McGANN

JAMES McGANN
James was inspired by his mother Valerie who trained as a chef in the British army. His catering career started when he was aged 13 washing dishes in his home town of Weston Super Mare in England.
After completing trade school, James worked under various chefs to further his career. After some years he decided that it was time to find his way in London where he worked in Michelin star restaurants working for well reknowned chefs suchas Gary Rhodes.
In the year 2000, after a fantastic four years in London he was lured to Melbourne and has worked along side many of the top chefs of this city ever since. His knowledge and passion for high end 'Michelin' inspired food has helped bring a fantastical element to series 1 of 'Food to Eat'. His knowledge of finedining is second to none and we are pumped that a chef of his calibre joined us on this awesome food to eat adventure. James features in 4 episodes and brings something different to each.
